SANDYMOUNT.
A very pleasant time wa3 spent in the Sandymount Hall on Friday evening, Ist May, ■when Mr and Mrs Balsille were entertained at a social, given by a large number of their friends, prior to their (Mr and Mrs Balsille's) departure from the district. During the evening Mr Balsille was presented with a very handsome purse of sovereigns on the occasion of hia severing his connection with the Sandymount School, to which he has been attached in the capacity of head master for the past 36 years, to take up a position on the staff of the Normal School. The presentation was made on behalf of the pupils who have attended lha Sandymount School during Mr Balsille's term of service and other friends and wellwishers in Sandymount and surrounding districts, in token of the regard in which he is held by them. The Chairman (Mr James Garr), in making the presentation, dwelt on the many sterling qualities possessed by Mr Balsille as a school tee-chsr and also as friend end neighbour. Mr B».lsi!!e, who received quite an ovation, suitably replied. He said that with the money he would purchase something which he would always treasure as a memento of the occasion. During the evening dancing was indulged in with much spirit by the young people to capital music supplied by Miss A. Nyhon. A number of ladies and gentlemen contributed vocal and instrumental item 3 in a very pleasing manner. A capital repast, consisting of tea and other delicacies, provided by the ladies, was very much enjoyed by everyone. After according votes of thanks to those who contributed songs, recitations, etc., during the evening, to Miss Nyhon for supplying the dance music, to Misg Hutcheon and Miss Tveill for collecting for tho presentation, to the ladies who supplied tho refreshments, and to Mrs P. Black for the use of piano, what proved to be one of the moat enjoyable evenings ever spent in the district ■was brought to a close.
