CLINTON.

October 1. — Last Saturday and Sunday we had quite a wintry turn of weather, with snow hail, and cold winds. It is to he hoped this will not continue long, as it will have a veiy bad effect on the young lambs, lambing being now general m this district.

Cricket. — The annual meeting of the local cricket club took place last Friday week. There was a fair attendance of members. The report and balance were rend and adopted. The following office beared s were elected for the ensuing yeai : — Piesident, Mr Irving; vicepresidents, Messrs M'Donald, Hammer, Charlton, M'Lachlan, Douglas, and J. W. Thomson, .M.H.R. ; Captain, H. Garforth; deputy-cap-tain, Mr J. B. Ritchie; secretary, Mr J. R. Mayson ; delegate to South Otago Cricket Association, W. Thomson; match committee, Messrs Irving, Ritchie, and W. Thomson. It was decided to have a concert at an early date.Messrs Mayson, Garforth, M'Lachlan, Cuff, and Martin _ were appointed a committee to carry out all arrangements in connection with the concert.

Dramatic Society. — The local dramatic society are busy rehearsing "The Colleen Bawn." I understand it is the intention of tho society to stage this play at an early date.

Religious. — Mr Catherwood occupied the pulpit in the local Presbyterian Church on Sunday, and delivered an excellent sermon.

Examination. — -The local school is to be .examined pa Thursday. Mr Crow, who has

been head teacher at "Wairuna for the "last fca j-ears, has been appointed to a similar posi> tion in the Warweia school.
