WAIAU.

September 29. — A misleading paragraph 'from the Southern Standard appealed in the "Witness of the 19th. The horse Ringmaster is not the pioperty of Mr Waddell, of Waikaka Valley, who bred him, but at the present time of Mr Salton, of Feldvick, who bought him iiom Mr Cupples, of Otautau, for over £300. This hoise stood in the fiist place both at Dunedin and Gore. The district is to be congratulated on the acquisition of n, horse of the highest class. At present he girths Sft. An absurd mmour spread that he is a bit of a &avagc, and would not be led by a "rider, but would attack the hack in such a case. Mr Dalton tells me that, though full of life and spirits, such is by no means the case.

District Stud Horse.— The Waiau Draught Horse Association received a considerable number of applications from all paits of the district, and as far north as Marlborough. A deadlock occurred, however. The Selection Committee consisted af two ; and from this cause ranch valuable time was lost. Both horses were withdrawn, and had not Mr Dalton bought Emgmaster it is probable that the association would, have been left in the lurch. One favoured Ringmaster,- the other King of the Ring. The delegates were Messr3 Soobie and James King.

Agriculture. — The weather has been highly favourable for all kinds of farm work, which is as a result well advanced.

A Serious Loss.- — A fine young horse died the other day at Memvale. On the clay of his death an ofisr was made of £5i for him. The cause is said to have been bots.

Disadvantages of ths Beck Blocks. — Otsihu is losing another tenant. Some of those on tho back blocks in other districts are anxious to guit — men who took up land down country at the same time are now in a highly prosperous condition. Small settlers can never flourish so far away from facilities of railway carriage and proximity to stock and other markets.
