October 1. — Another cold snap to close the month of September was not very acceptable in die middle of lanibmg, and during the past few nights many lambs must have succumbed to the cold if not in specially sheltered positions. Some snow has fallen on the mountains, and a good deal of ram. , The ground will benefit by the wet, and warm stmshine is required' to send the grpm through the ground. This morning the storm appears to be at an end, and a rising barometer indicates better weather.

Concert.- — The weather was wet and cold for the school concert on Friday evening last, but notwithstanding there was an. excellent attendance. The whole programme was supplied by school children, and m the infant division especially &ome capital items were contributed. Two or three of the 'action songs could not have been improved upon. The older girls also did well, and the teachers are to be complimented on the careful tiainmg of their pupils. The hall and stage were tastefully decorated, and but for the wet night the concert would have attracted a packed house. Dr De Lautour (chairman of the school committee) occupied the chair, and ably conducted the concert. Miss M'Laren presided at the harmonium and piano, and Miss Howat and Mr Menzies had a busy time ranging up the youngsters for the various items.
