ALBURY (S.C.)

September 29.— The prosecutioin of spring work is exercising the minds of the major portion of the population of this district with rathei more than ordinary concern. Those -with farm labourois on hand are for the most jpart deploring the frequent interruptions by adverse weather, and the floekrnaslers, since ihey are practically the only slockowners in the district, deprecate the changeableneas as being Utnfavourable to the best results in the lambing fields. Septembei has been the most broken month experienced here for a. long time, and occasionally the squalls have been severely Wintry like, though fortunately not of long duration.

Marriages and Engagements. — More than Dne engagement has been announced of late, and the officiating clergyman lie>s also been

employed forging the bonds of holy matrimony, on several occasions, and his services arc again to be called into requisition next week.. The wedding of Miss Bella Sutherland to Mr Donald Stuart was a subject of great local interest, as both bricie and. bridegioom. are well and favourably known, and correspondingly popular. The happy couple are now spending their honeymoon in the North Island. , Our Volunteers. — Our local corps have at Jast got their imiform, and seem more like soldiers, and at drill look as though they leally wished to fill the role with the dignity becoming so honourable a part. The company has its complement of 73 members, and there are a number of most suitable young fellows at the various centres anxious to join. Those aiow enlisted are as enthusiastic in their drill and shooting exercises as ever, so that the future of the company should be assured. In tho second-class filing match recently cairied out, excellent shooting was again registered. On this occasion the local division had the satisfaction of scoring well. The first prize fell to Sergeant A. S. Smith, with a total of 68. Trooper Jack egam appropriated the second prize with 66, and Corporal Cross and W. Binny (61) tied with Trooper F. Batchelor, of Albury, .for third place. A valuable trophy given for the highest score at 400yd<3, also fell to Sergeant Smith, of Albuiy, to n our local men keep oil improving, the headquarters division will have to look to their laurels.
