LAND BOARD.

The regular meeting of the Land Board was haid on Wednesday, there being present — Messrs J. P. Maitland (Chief Commissioner), Clark, Dallas, Dtmcan, and Kirkpatrick.

The Chief Surveyor having forwarded a plan of section 203, block I, Township of Naseby (Masonic Hali site), it was decided that thesection be offered at auction at an upset of £G. v. ith valuation for improvements, £'150.

Ranger Hughan having forwarded valuation on the improvements on allotment sa, Janefield settlement, a valuation of was approved.

Appistant Ranger O'Neill reported on the application of John Garrett, jun., for a license to occupy portion of the mining reserve in block IV. Moiiiit Hyde dibtiict. — A yearly license, under section 116 of the Land Act, was .granted over the south-eastern portion of section 35 in the block at a rental of £3 2s 6d, with license fee, £1 Is.

Assistant Ranger O'Neill also reported on an application by James Harrison for a license to occupy portion of the mining reserve in block IV, Mount Hyde district. — Yearly license granted over south-western portion of sections 35 and 36 at a rental of 355, with license fee, £1 Is.

The Clutha, Waiherao, and Taieri County Councils forwarded statements of proposed expenditure of thirds and fourths for the period, April 2 to June 30, 1900. — Approved.

The board v/as requested to extend the orea over which a yearly license had been granted to George Stringer to 34 acres instead of 20 acres as at present (block 11, Tiger Hill district). — Request granted.

Assistant Ranger O'Neill forwarded a report on section 16, block VII, Swinburn district, recently held by W. J. Simpkins. — Yearly license granted to Mrs W. J. Simpkins over section referred to at a rental of 6d per acre, payable half-yearly, with license fee, £1 Is. Mr T. Chaimer, on behalf of Chas. Low, npplied for a license to occupy the mining reserve between sections 40 and 41, block VIII, Shotover district. — Yearly license granted at a rental of 15s, with license fee, £1 Is. The application to transfer lease in perpetuity of sections 5 and 6, block VII, Tarras district, from David Grierson to Thomas Meadows was approved.

Assistant Ranger O'Neill having reported on an application by John Prescott for a camping reserve between Chatto Creek and Springvale, the board declined the application. The board considered the case of W. K. M'lntosh, who had failed to pay arrears of rent o:i smell grazing run 244f, Tiger Hill district, ond decided upon foifeiture, the ranger to make * valuation lor improvements, and suggest rental.

An application was received from the Lpke County Council to have the quarry reserve adjoining section 78, and gravel reserve intersecting section 76, block VIII, Shotover district, vested in the council. — Jir A. M. Brodcrick, on behalf of Patrick Kerin, wrote objecting to the reserve adjoining sect'on 78 beingvested in the council. — Referred to Ranger Mackenzie for report.

Ranger Mackenzie having forwarded a repoit on sections 1 to 8, block XXI, Town of Pembroke, the board decided that the land be offered at auction as town lands, at an upset of £5 per quarter acre.

Ranger Mackenzie forwarded a letter from Mr Houlihan requesting to be allowed to remove his fencing from the mining reseive, Arrowtown, from within the portion over which a yearly license had been granted to Thos. M'Donnell. — The Board saw no objection to applicant removing the fence.

An application by Esther Mitchell to take up section 16, block XII, Mount Hyde district, aa rural land, for cash, was approved.

An application by Angus Kennedy for a license to occupy part of block XVII, Town of Alexandra, was reported upon by Assistant Ranger O'Neill, ancb declined.

It was resolved that Mr D. M'Donald be given a right to occiipy section 47, block IV, Mount Hyde district, on condition that he undertook to rabbit over the section, exclusive of his license over portion of section 40, of the same block.

A letter from the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company on behalf of Geo. Harvey, jun., and Joseph Abernethy was considered concerning sections lately held by them on the Pomahaka Downs estate. — It was resolved that George Harvey, jun., be granted a license over section 7, block XIV, from 30th June to the 31st December next, at a rent of £25 Gs 9d, and 3oseph Abernethy a, similar license over 4 section 9, block XIV, at a rental of £18 Us 7d. Both licenses to be issued conditional on rent to 30th June last being lodged with the Receiver of Land Revenue, and a further valuation of improvements to be made 14 days before the land is open for application.

Ranger Atkinson forwarded a report on sections 80 and 82, block VIII, Makareao estate, lately held by J. Dalziel and J. Rice.—Sections to be reopened and grouped, with valuation for improvements, £98 11s 3d.

An entertainment to welcome Sergeant Fahev, invalided from South Africa, was held at Riverton on Wednesday evening, when he was presented with a handsome set of gold studs.

The Tokomairiro Farmers' Club's annual show takes place on the 4th December, not November as appears in our show fixtures.
