ROTORUA IMPROVEMENTS
During the discussion on the Estimates Mr Bollard strongly urged the Government to construct a lock between Lake Rotorua and Lake Rotoiti. Thi3 would not only enable boats to pass from one lake to the other, but also raise the level of Lake Rotorua, and thus enable the wharf to be used, which, since the overflow found a new channel, has been almost useles«. The cost of the lock would be about £7CO. The Minister of Lands promised to look into the matter on liis next visit to Auckland, and said* lie would bo pleaded, if Mr Bollard would accompany him and explain \is proposal.
PETITIONS,
Petitions regarding the suppression of gambling and objecting to the introduction of liquor into the King Country continue to be sent in to Parliament. MR COLLINS IN SEARCH OF INFOR-
MATION,
Mr Collins wants lo know from the Government by whose authority, at whose expense, and for what purpose, certain extracts from Hansard, bearing the imprint of the Government printer, have been printed and forwaided by a Mr Edwards to Christchurch ior distribution? I am given to understand that the printed matter referred to consists of extracts from some of the Premier's speeches in the House this session, severely criticising Mr Collins. The gentleman to whom the extracts were sent has, however, refused to distribute them, and the bundle remains in Christchurch unopened. More is likely to be heard of the matter.
