T. E. Shiel and Co. report for the week ending March 7: —
Wheat. — New crop from the north now offering, but buyers not operating freely. We qt.ote : Best velvet and Tuscan, 2s s^d to 2s 6^d ; medium, 2s sd ; seconds, 2s ; fowl wheat — best, 2s Id to 2s 2d ; medium, Is lid to 2s ; inferior, Is 9d to Is lOd.
Oats. — Good demand. We quote: Milling, 2s Id ; best stout feed, 2s o*d ; Danish, Is lid ; duns, Is lid; medium, Is lOd to Is lO^d; inferior, Is 8d to Is 9d.
Chaff. — Best heavy oaten sheaf 60s (good demand); medium, £2 12s 6d to £2 15s.
Potatoes. — Market glutted, and sales can only be effected at reduction on late quotations. We quote: Best, fresh dug kidneys, 40s; Derwonts, 40s; inferior and stale, 25s to 30s (with no demand). .
Onions, 4s 6d per cwt,
B-atter. — We advise all milled and dairy or separator to be sent to our address, care Cool Stores, Port Chalmers. End of this month shipment to London will probably cease. Local demand for winter consumption will not commence before April. Pigs. — Excellent demand for prime baconers (1301b to 1601b) at 3Jd per lb.
Cheese. — Factory, large size, sd; loaf, s£d; Akaroa, best, 4-Jd to 4|d (good demand). Poultry.-r-In over-supply, and prices lower. We expect decided improvement next week on account of races, and "departure of contingent. Boosters, 2s to 4s ; ducks, 3s 3d to 4s 6d ; hens, 2s 6d to 2s 8d; geese, ss; turkeys — cocks, 8d to 9|d; hens, 5d to 6:L
