Notes from Lyell. [From Our Own Correspondent.)

LYELL, March 2. The Mine Manager of the Alpine mine reports as follows: — In No. 7 level air pipes are being put in, and this work will be finished to-mor-row. Six men are raising and cross-cutting over this level, but so far nothing of any value has been met with. The country is of a kindly and slaty nature in the winze below No. 10 level south. The reef in the solid stope having become too small to work, we have started the second stope. The reef is from 9ft to 10ft in width. In the winze below No. 11 level north stoping is being carried on. The reef is from 2ft to 7ft in width. For the week 85 tons o~f quartz have been sent to the battery.
