SALE OF ELDERSLIE SHEEP.
Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows : — In conjunction with Mcs&rs Fleming and Heclley, ol Oamaru, and Messrs P}'ne an-d Co., of Christchurch, we offered, on account ! ol Mr John Reid, of .Eldeislie, about 20,000 crossbred sheep and lambs, at his Clifton yards on Friday last. Mr Reid having sold the larger part of his estate to the Government for delivery on Ist proximo, the sheep were svibmittcd for unreserved sale. The weather was most propitious, and the attendance first-class. The sheep were all in splendid condition, anil tho sale arrangements were so complete and satisfactory that the auctioneers found no difficulty in getting through the selling in very quick time, and in giving delivery of the 19,014 sheep sold before 6 o'clock the same evening. To Mr Chas. W. Reid (the manager) and Mr Poison (the head shepherd) is due the credit of this result. After what has been said as to the weather, attendance, sheep, and sale arrangements, it is aloinst superfluous to add that the sale was a great success, and the result entirely satisfactory to Mr Eeid. With the exception of a few stud long-wool rams and ewes, the whole of the sheep were sold as follows: — 773 very prime fat crossbred weathers (heavy) at 15& Gd, to Mr J. M'Carthy; 563 do halfbred wethers at 15s 4d, to Mr X Grant; 1811 very forward crossbred wethers at 14s 2d to Mr N. Grant; 500 do at 13s Sd, to Mr E. Reid; 396 do at 13s 4d, to Mr P. Studholme; 850 four and six-tooth three-quarter and seven-eighth-bred longwool owes at 14s 7d, to Mr E. Reid ; 1425 do at 14s Id, to Mr E. Studholme ; 1035 two, four, and six-tooth three-quarter and seven-eighth-bred longwool ewes at 14s 3d, to Mr D. Borrie; 100 do at 14s 3d, to Mr P. Twohill ; 1168 do halfbred at 14s 2d, to Mr A. W. Gillies; 100 lull-mouthed three-quaiterbred ewes at 12s' lOd, to Mr T. Sheehy; 392 do at 12s 3d, to Mr Geo. Duke; 980 do halfbred at 13s 3d, to Mr A. M'Lachlan; 803 do fine crossbred at 12s Bd, to Mr A. Hedley; 379 do halfbred at 32s 7d, to Mr E. Samuels; 600 do three-q-aarter-bred at 13s 2d, to Mr E. Samuels; 140 do at 12s lOd, to Mr R. M'Donald ; 297 two-tooth fine crossbred ewes at 14s, to Mr W. Gardiner jnn. ; 1936 prime lambs at 11s 9d, to Mr N. Grant; 1000 do at 11s 4d, to Mr J". M'Carthy; 1011 store lambs at 9s, to Mr J. R. Hill ; 909 do at 8s lid, to Mr R. Taylor; 600 cull do at 8s Id, to Mr R. A. Glenn ; 342 do at Ss, to Mr C. de S. Teschemaker; 772 broken-mouthed three1 quarterbred ewes at 9s 4d, to Mr D.
