THE GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.
Messrs Samuel Oku and Co., Stafford street, report for the week ending June 9 as follows :— The weather continues fine, and in many places north of Oamai v ploughing is at a complete standstill, the ground being so haul. A good rain from Canterbury down would do an immense lot of good. Oats. — When we wrote about these last week we felfc at the la^l moment a "going off" feeling, hence our remark of their being at a dangerous pitch, aiid aovi-ing holders to be cautious, and since the c trly part of the week offerings have been ruoie numerous and demand duller, ho that an easier feeling has been prominent. Assisting this has been the abheuce of shipping facilities, with the result that they may be quoted Id per bushel down. They are also easier in Sidney, but the cause is difficult to work out. We quote : Prime heavy Sut.herlanda and sparrowbill* up to, say, 2s 4fld ; heavy feed, 2s 3£d ; ordinary, 2s 2d to 2s 2td ; and for feed qualities 2s fid to 2s 9d. Wheat. — Market continues active, and no diffiulty is experienced in placing good milling quality, and which w« quote up to 4s b'd for prime velvc ; other sorts, 4s 4d ; fowls' feed, 3s to 3s 6d. Barley.— Sales continue lo be made on the basis of recent quotations. Chaff. — This has again advanced, and our prognostications of March 17 have been realised a bit sooner Than many expected. We quote prime heavy oaten sheaf, if well cut, up to £4 10s ; other qualities from £2 15s to £4 5s Potatoes.— Until the weather breaks we will have no advance in these, and in the north they are selling at £2 10rf (f.o b. their respective port's), Oamaru excepted We quote : Northerners, £3 5s ; southerns, up to £3.
