TAIERI MOUTH.

June 29.— 1t is not often we" see June out- without experiencing winter weather j but this season !b a pleasant exception. We have had fully two months of very dry weather, the roads being as kood as they were in summer— indeed, I hear some of the folk complaining of a scarcity of water. It was not very searoathis time last year. However, we force time enough to get a full supply jet

before July and August tire out. As a rule they are our two roughest months,

Agricultural.— Stock «s a rule are looking well this winter. The weather being so fine they are much easier kept up than in severe weather ; in fact, last winter was very hard on stock, and down this way winter feed was scarce. This season everybody has an abundance of straw, with fair crops of turnips. Most of the settlers are getting well forward with their ploughing. I think there will be a larger area sown thiß year, as the good prices which have been going this season will induce people to put in mure oats than they have done for some years past. But graingrowing is a game of chance to a groat extent. You never know when you are going to strike it. The Ferry. —l hear no further word about our new punt. It was agreed at last meeting of the County Council to expend the £209 voted by the Government, but a month ban passed and nothing further has been heard about it. I suppose, however, we must wait with patience, for Rome was not built in a day, so we must expeot many days— and months, too, lam afraid— to elapse ere we Bee our now punt in full swing, breasting the surges of our lovely Taieri River.
