WYLLIE'S CROSSING.

June 29.— The weather sd far has been all that could be desired, and the farmers have got their work well advanced. It has become the practice in this locality to get as much sowing done in autumn as possible, and I am told by one of the best farmers here that he can get 25 per cent, better crops by sowing in the fall than in the spring. I notice Mcvra R. Muir and James Wright have a number of paddocks getting nice and green, proniWiui; well for next season. School.— Tbe school committee met 6u Saturday evening-, when there were present Messrs John Wright, V. T. Shand, W. Gibson, S. Thompson, James VV*rf!rht..and Gilmour. Mr John Wright was voted to the' chair in the absence of Mr Lang. The teacher's report of the attendance of children was considered highly satisfactory, and It was decided to have one week for winter holidays, The nse.uf the school was granted to the young men fur a ba)l on Friday night next;. The proceeds of the ball will be devoted to the school funds.

Appointment.— The many friends of Mr John Muir will be p eaaed to hear that he has been appointed agent for Balclutfta and tbe surroundibg districts for the Mutual Agency of Dunedin. That Mr Muir will' creditably fill the position I am sure— indoeii; it would have been very hard for the company to have got a better man, as he has a thorough practical knowledge of farming, and the farmers at Hulclutha will find they have got an obliging, honest, straight-forward young t man to deal with. H e leaves here on Wednesday for Balcluthsi, and takes with him the good wishes of his many friends throughout the district.
