A STRANGE OUTRAGE. Auckland, November 25.

This morning one of the seamen of the brigantine Linda Weber, owned by the Cook ' Island Trading Company, was conveyed to the hospital suffering from injuries which are considered likely to end fatally. The circumstances connected with the case are to the effect that the seaman in question, who is a Cook Island native named Mataloa, was going on board on Saturday night about 11.30 when he got into a scuffle at the end of the railway wharf, where the boat is lying. The native wan struck on the head with a brick. The injured man's .cries were overheard by some of the other natives on board and they camo to his assistance. When the mate arrived at the vessel this morning and found the man in a bad wa/ he at once sent for a doctor, who on arrival took several large pieces of broken brick out of the man's head. The police are investigating the affair.
