A PROPOSED TRAINING SHIP.

Borne weeks ago the Premier, in answering a question upon the Order Paper, coramitbed himself to the Btiteoient that trainiog ships for bo>B had been tried in Australia and proved a failure, while as a matter of fact one of the most successful institutions of the kind for the training of juvenile offenders has been «flo»t in Port jAok«on, Sydney, for over a quarter of a century. To-day a report upon tbe " Sobraon," the ship now in nee there, and the system adopted, being the rcult of a recent vieit of inspection by Mr J. E March, superintendent t'f settlements, was laid upon the table. Mr Mtrch speaks in the bight si terms of the ship, the system, and the te.ultf, and strongly recommends the adoption of a similar ins'.itut'ou here, with the addition of provision fur a nautical school for youths whose parents can afford to pay for the necessary education to fit th*-m for the navy or mercantile marine. H« is of op'uioo that the Imperial Government would willingly provide an obsolete warship for the required purposes. JOTTINGS. Charles Edward Rawson, of the Justice department, becomes entitled to a pension of £244 on December 1, 1895.
