C. Miller (Outram), 4 at 10s, 4 at 9a ; Mr William Patrick (Balmoral), 5 at 26s 6d. Store Cattle — This is practically the off-season, it is therefore not surprising that transactions are limited. Small sales are occasionally effected, but, as usual at thu time of the year, very few change hands, the demand being chiefly confined to the requirements of the few who have a supply of root crops and are in a position to finish off for the market Store Sheep. — Buyers for winter feeding are now pretty fully supplied, consequently no sales of any importance are coming under notice. At the fortnightly country auction sales odd lota, mixed breeds and aged crosibreds, change hands, but as a rule at unsatisfactory prices to the vendors. The weekly surplus at Burnside is apparently sufficient to meet the various local requirements. Country Sales —The Mutual Agency Com pany of New Zealand (Limited) held their usual monthly sale at Palmerston on Tuesday, 3rd inst., when ther.i was a fair entry of sheep and cattle, most of which changed hands at satisfactory prices. Wool. — Cablegrams to hand on the opening of July series are satisfactory. A rise of 5 per cent, is quoted, although the selection offered was poor. The attendance of Home and foreign buyers was good and competition keen. Locally there has been little done, the usual oddments being cleared weekly at late rates. Sheepskins are in good demand, and all lines offered at tho local auction sales meet with keen competition and ready sales at most satisfactory prices. Crossbred skins of all classes command, most attention, but for others the prices are quite equal to the London equivalent. On Tuesday last

the trade and shippers were fully represented, and prices obtained showed a slight advance on those of last week. Quotations : Country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, Is 6d to 2s 9d ; do do merino, Is 3d to Is Sd ; medium to good crosabreds, 2s lOd to 3s lid ; extra heavy, 4s to 4s 8d good to best merinos, 2s to 2s lOd ; extra, 3s Id to 3s Sd ; dry pelta, 3d to la ; butchers' best crossbreds, 3s 8d to 4s ; extra, to 4s 6d ; medium to good, 3s 4d to 3s 7d; butchers' merinos, Is 6d to 2s Bd.

Rabbitskins.— Catalogues this week were only moderately large, and prices obtained showed no improvement ; in fact, for inferior skins the market is somewhat weaker. Winters, however, maintained late quotations. Best winters (mixed) brought Is ; best selected winters are worth up to 12£ d ; coloured skins, 7d to lOd ; late autumns, 9d to lOd ; early autumns, 7d to 8d ; summers, 4Jd to 6d ; suckers and inferior, lid to 4d. Hides.— This market is steady. A first-class demand is experienced for good, stout, well-flayed ox hides, but inferior hides are difficult to quit at prices to satisfy consignors. Quotations : For butchers' best ox hides, in good condition, going 601b and over, 3d ; medium hides, 2d to 2£d ; others, lid to l|d ; inferior and slippy, Id to lid per lb. Tallow.— Market firm at last weeks prices— viz., best rendered mutton 18s 6d to 20s ; medium to good, 16s to 18s ; inferior to medium, 13s to 15a 6d. Rough fat : Best mutton caul, 13s to 13s 6d ; medium to good, 12s to 12s 9d; inferior to medium, 103 to lls 6d per cwt. Grain.— Wheat : Although the market is somewhat dull, there is a moderate demand for good samples, especially for prime inilliug velvet. Millera are operating quietly, and all offering ia quitted at prices lately quoted. Fowls' wheat is very saleable, and can be quoted slightly better than of late. Quotations : For prime milling velvet 2s lOd to 2s lid, with one or two sales of choice up to 3s ; medium to good milling, 2s 8d to 2s 9d ; good fowls' wheat, 2s 2d to 2a 5d ; inferior and broken, Is 9d to 2s (ex store, sacks in). Oats have met with poor demand during the past week, but a number of sales of good samples have been effected at prices showing a slight decline on those lately quoted. Our local millers are fairly stocked, and the outlook is not encouraging. The stocks now held by brokers consist for the most part of medium to inferior samples, and to quit these we are afraid lower prices will have to be accepted. Quotations: For best bright feed and milling, Is 4sd to la s^d ; medium to good feed, Is 4d to Is 4id ; inferior to medium, Is 2d to Is 3id ; bright Tartarians for seed command Is6d to Is 7id (ex store, sacks extra). Barley : Business in this has been confined to salea of medium quality. There is no demand for feed at present, and but little for milling. Quotations : Best malting, 3s 6d to 3s 9d : medium, 3s to 3s 3d ,* milling, 2s 3d to 2s 9d ; feed, Is 3d to Is 9d (ex store, sacks extra). Grass Seeds.— The market remains quiet, this being the off season, and the business passing ia necessarily contracted. Good to best machinedressed ryegrass seed is held for 2s 9d to 3s 3d ; choice guaranteed perennial, 3s fid to 4s (ex store, net, sacks extra). Cocksfoot : Best dressed, sid to 6id ; medium, 4d to 5d per lb. Potatoes. — Market glutted, and sales difficult to effect. Quotations nominal— say for best Derwents, 40s to 455 ; medium, 35s to 37s 6d per ton (ex store, sacks weighed in, net) ; kidneys, no demand of any consequence. Chaff.— Market over supplied with inferior and medium, but really good well-cut heavy is scarce. A moderate demand only exists. Quotations : For best, £2 7s 6d to £2 12a 6d ; medium to good 37s 6d to 455 ; inferior, 30s to 35s per ton (ex truck, sacks extra, net). Dairy Produce.— There is no apparent alteration to note in the position. No demand of any consequence exists. Quotations : For prime salt dairymade butter, 6Jd to 7id ; medium, 4d to 6d ; factorymade, 9d to lOd per lb. Factory-made cheese, Blow sale ; medium size retailed at 4i}d ; loaf shape, 4|d to 5d per lb. Flax. — The market is now pretty bare of stock and but little coming forward, yet more than sufficient for requirements, which, we regret, are easily satisfied. Quotations nominal, say— for medium to good, £13 10a to £14 10a ; inferior to medium, £10 to £12 per ton (ex store).
