Chess Item.
The subject of the admission of ladies as members of the Otago Chess Club is at present receiving consideration. The club's present quarters are hardly suitable for tne accommodation of ladies. When the public library is instituted, as it will be before long, provision should be made for a chessroom as well as a reading room. Two rooms would really be required, one for nonsmokers and ladies who dislike smoking, and another for the others.
