COMMISSION CHARGES.
The question of a reduction in the rates of commission, &c. charged at the Burnside saleyards by the stock agents was again brought up at Burnside last Wednesday. The farmers were informed by the agents that the latter had given the matter every consideration, and weighed well the arguments used by the farmers, but ; had arrived at a decision similar to that agreed upon when the matter was first brought before them — that they could not see their way to reduce the rates of commission. Some of the farmers held the opinion that, after the length of time that had elapsed since the agents first had the matter brought under their notice, and from the fact that the agents had considered the matter for the second time, the farmers deserved to be treated with more consideration ; but the agents let it be understood that they had decided not to reduce the charges, this decision being approved of by the agents and agents' repretentatives present. We (Taieri Advocate) learn that the agents having declined to meet the farmers in a manner satisfactory to the latter, a meeting of those interested in the matter will shortly be held. The decision of the agents will then be discussed, and the stockowners and others will probably decide as to what course of action will be taken.
