GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.

Messrs William E. Reynolds and Co., wool, grain, seed, and produce agents, Stafford street, report for the week ending 9th August 1893 as follows:— Since last reporting a severe change has taken place in the weather, and from accounts to hand we learn that in some districts it has done damage, but to very little extent so far. Wheat.— We regret again to report $he unsatisfactory state of this market, ' and' we see no prospects of any immediate chance. We quote as last, viz. : Prime velvet and Tuscan, up to 3s ; medium to good, 2s 7d to 2s lOd ; fowl feed, up to 2s 6d. Oats. — This market is depressed at present, and very few lines have been changing hands, owing principally to holders remaining firm,, and prices being above speculators' values. There is good inquiry for all classes of oats, but chiefly for local consumption, although several fair parcels have been shipped this week. From reports to hand prices are steadily rising in Victoria, and the market there remains very firm. \Ve are inclined to think that the market will ' revive again ere long, but do nob expect any great advance in price? meantime. We quote : Prime ' milling and feed, 2s Id to 2i lid ; good heavy, 2s to 2s Old ; medium- and inferior, Is 9d to Is lljd ; seed parcels up to 2s 4d. Seeds. — The demand 'and inquiry for these are now very good, and orders come to hand from the country freely. Ryegrass : 1 his is very firm, although few sales are being made, except in small lines ordered by farmers. Buyers do not care to speculate "at present prices, which are : Prime (machine-dressed), up to 4s 6d ; good, 4s to 4s 3d ; farmers' dressed,, up 'to, 3s '9d per bushel. Cocksfoot is having a deal of attention and is firmer. Best dressed is worth up to '^d' ; good, 3Jd to 4d. Clovers : Orders coming in freely, and indications point to a good demand. ' Potatoes?— This market still remains very firm and prices are welj ina^ritained, b,ut only for tiptop lines, second quality being slow of sale. Prime Derwents, £5 to £5 53 ; medium, £4 10s to £4 17s 6d. Chaff.— Owing to short supplies this market has advanced very considerably. The demand for really prime is very good, and eyen inferior is commanding a attention. We quote: Prime, 67s od to 73s fid ; medium to good, 50s to 653 ; inferior, 30s to 40s, WEEKLY MARKET REPORT. Manse street, Dunedin, report (wholesale) as follows for week ending August 10, 1893 :— Wheat : For good lines of Tuscan and velvet we have fair demand. Prime quality saleable at 2s 9d to 3s ; medium, 2s 4d to 2s Bd. Any lines coming forward can easily be placed off trucks. Fowls' wheat : Good whole grain, 2s 4d to 2a 6i— in good demand; medium. Is lid to 2s Id. Barley : Chevalier, 3s 9d to 4s ; Cape, 2s 9d to 38, for malting qualities. Oats : We quote — Good milling and prime feed, 2s Id to & 2Jd; long Tartarians for seed ; bright, 2s 3d to 2s od.' Ryeoorn : We are shipping per Fifeshire, leaving Port Chalmers August 18, with reduced rates, for the Continent of Europe. We have inquiry for some 100 sacks locally. Hops, Is f.o.b. Kelson, Potatoes: Good Der. wents.loo* | Kidneys fit for seed. 46, and supplies are snort. Pigs have inquiry, iii to 4}d for suitable steel and, quality. packages extra; prime quality only wanted. Cheese in better demand: Akaroa (large), 4Jd to 4Jd ; factory, 4Jd to sd. Hams and bacon : Bacon (rolled), «jd ; hams, 9d ; sides, 64d. Honey: Extracted, 561b tins, 4Jd; other sorts from 3id to 4Jd. Grass seeds: Ryegrass, 2s 6d to 3s ; machined from 3s 9d to 4s od ; cocksfoot, 3id ' to 4id— in good demand. Linseed wanted ; we * can aupply a few sacks at 15s. Onions, £10 '.Cocksfoot : We can supply light seed for surface sowing at 8s 6d per Back; medium seed, 12s 6d per sack — cash accompanying order. Kainit or German potash salt, £5; nitrate of soda, £15 per ton ; Standard phosphate, £6 63. Standard bone manure. No farmer should be without either. Rabbitskins : Winter does and bucks mixed greys, la 4d; best selected does, Is sd. We have a, splendid property for sale in the Waikato district, two miles from Hamilton (361 acres). Main Trunk line runs through the property. Cheap. Buyers only apply for particulars.
