Ellison made a poor attempt. Play was of an even description for some time, until Ellison passed to Leo, who broke through the local defence and scored. Ellison's kick struck the bar and rolled over. After play in Wellington's territory Hislop.passed to Rees, who got over. Howard's kick was unsuccessful. The ball remained in the Wellington quarters, where a penalty kick was awarded to Hawko's Bay. Rees dropped a splendid goal. After the kick off Morrison made a splendid run, but the ball was brought back for a throw forward. Gage by smart play got over, but no goal was kicked. Gage returned the kick out, and, following fast, eluded the opposing backs and scored, Le Quesne hanging on to him. Gage made a poor attempt at goal. Play was of an even description until time. Gage played a splendid game for Wellington, feeding the three-quarters, running and kicking magnificently, and was head and shoulders above the others. Ellison and Pudney were also good. Stuart, Oliphant, and Pringle were the best forwards. For the losers, Le Quesno saved frequently by tackling as full back. The three-quarters were very poor. Rees and Tuitare were excellent as halves. Malcolm, Morrison, Wilson, Hiroa, and Howard were the pick of the forwards. Mr Logan was referee. , A Wellington telegram states that the Napier Herald having accused one of the Wellington forwards in the football match against Napier on Saturday of having used foul and disgusting language within hearing of the spectators, the Wellington Rugby Union have decided to submit the following questions to the referee, line umpires, and captains of the respective teams :— " Did you hear any bad langauge ? If so, who was the player, a Wellington or Napier man ? What was the language used ? Do you think the offence, if any. called for the paragraph in the paper named ? "
