AQUATICS, THE SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.

KEMP WINS EASILY. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, May 15. The sculling race between P. Kemp and J. M'Lean, for £200 a side and the championship of the world, was rowed this afternoon on the Parramatta river. Kemp was the favourite. Both men gripped the water together. Kemp with a stroke of 41 slightly led his opponent, who was pulling the same stroke. A great race took place to Uhr's Point, where Kemp took a leading position, and crossing over to the beacon he increased his advantage to two lengths. M'Lean afc this time was dipping deeply and pulling a jerky stroke. Kemp shot the mile post in 6min 16sec, and the race at this time was the greatest ever rowed on the river. Crossing at Putney the champion gained another length, and here M'Lean made a brilliant spurt, but was unable to reduce the gap, as Kemp with the greatest ease maintained his advantage, and won as he liked by six lengths. Time, 21min 46$ sec. M'Lean rowed a plucky race. Kemp has challenged O'Connor to row for the championship. May 19. The negotiations for a race between Kemp and O'Connor have come to a deadlock, the former insisting that the stakes shall be £500 a-side. The latter's backers consider that as a majority of championship races havn been for £200 the Canadian should not be asked to put up more.
