SOUTHLAND FOOTBALL NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Invercabgill, May 17. — The match between the 1.F.0. and the Pirates was played on Wedneaday afternoon, and was witnessed by a large number of people. The game was played in two spells of 45 minutps each, and resultod in a win fcr the I.F.C. by 12 points to four. Trosoder captained the winners, and V. Ekon stoon the lo=era. The play of the winnors w>w more combinpd and their form evidently much better than that of their opponents. Tweoilow (2), and Tresoder, Wade, and TayJor (1 each) secured the tries, Wade kicking a goal from one of them, and Thomson from another, whilst the last mentioned player BinartJy dropped a third goal from the field, Dalton and Montiplay scored for the Pirates, and Ekensteen placed a goal from one of the tries, Troseder, as usual, was the best forward on the

field, and on his side he received the greatest assistance from Paul, Treseder, and Todd, (forwards), and Neave, Wade, and Thomson, (backs). Of the losers, Ekensteen and H. Rogers (back), nnd Mentiplay and Ayling (forward) were the pick. Star Second v. Piratea Second, played on the same day, resulted in an easy win for the Star by six pointß to nil, Hawthor (2) and Hannah (1) obtained the tries, and Oockroft potted a geal. Mills, Erskine, Thompson, and Porter did the most serviceable work for their respective sides. To-day the 1.P.0. journeyed to Makarewa, where they met and defeated the local men by two goals and eight tries to mi.
