IMPORTANT SALE AT BRUNTSFIELD FARM, TAIERI.

Weight, Sthphhnson, and Co. report as follows :— The sale at Bruntifleld farm, near Greytown, held by us on Thursday last, on account of Mr William Hastie, attracted the largest attendance of buyers that we have seen congregated together for a very loDg time* There were farmers and others present from all parts of the Plain, from Tapanul. Waitepeka, Olutha, Lovell's Flat, Tokomalriro, Waihola, Kuri, Strath-Taieri, Waipori, Saddle Hill, Green Island, Oaversham, Dunedin, Peninsula, North-Bast Valley, Waitati, and Waikouaitl. Moat of them being intent on business, competed eagerly for the 250 odd lots offered, and one of the most satisfactory sales held for years resulted. Great credit is due to Mr Hastie, not only on acoouut of the general excellence of his stock, but also for having the same in such splendid condition. "Besides, he had everything so well arranged that no time was lost in carrying on the sale, and in consequence the Interest was sustained throughout. Horses brought up to £46 (this price being paid for a filly by Honesty) ; bullooks brought from £6 10s to £3 10s ; dairy cows from "£9 10s to £4 j four and six-tooth haHbred wethers, in forward condition, 11s lOd ; four and six-tooth halfbred ewes, 8s Gd ; pigs, from 36s to 15s ; growing turnips, equal to £7 per acre ; potatoes, equal to £12 10s per acre ; oat stacks, from £40 to £30 each ; implements, harness, dairy utensils, and household furniture, very full values. THE LABOUR MARKET. Mr Skknb reports under date May 13: -Winter has fairly begun to show tils teeth, and ploughing can now go ahead. There is a steady demand for most eortß of country people, but the inquiry for ploughmen is slow on account of the poor prices for grain. Shepherds and oouples are moving, but the principal run at this season is|for rabbit era. In town the building trade is very quiet, and it is a mistake for country people to rush the town at this season. Gold mininy, dredges, &c, are fortunately employIng a lot of men. Dairy people are much wanted, and hard to get. Wagei do not vary much.
