GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.

Mr Samuel Orr reports (on behalf of Cameron, Reynolds, and Oo.) for the week ending May 14 aB followß :—: —

The weather during the past week has been very favourable for all outdoor farm work, and arrivals of grain, though showing no increase, are much about the same as usual.

Wheat.— The change in this important cereal which in our last report we said might be anticipated has now, we are glad to say, taken place, and many lots of medium quality which a week ago were unsaleable have all found sale. Millers and speculators are both yet anxious, and prime quality of Tuscan is saleable at 3s sd ; velvet and red straw, 3s 3d to 3s 4sd ; ordinary, 2s 8d to 3s ; fowl feed, 2b 2d to 2s 6d.

Oats. — Market is in much the same position as last week, our outside markets showing no diaposltion to operate at any advance on late quotations, while speculators will not go in for any quantity as in former years. We quote .-—Prime milling, Is sd ,- ordinary, Is 4£d ; bright shore feed, Is 3d to Is 4d ; inferior, Is Id to Is 2d.

Barley.— There is no change for the better yet, millers and maltßters alike being well stooked, and as quotations for any grade would only be misleading we refrain from giving any. Chaff. — The market is being well supplied, and £2 12s 6d is the top for prime oaten sheaf, soreened quality; ordinary, £2 2s 6d to £2 10s.

Potatoes.— During the week these have come forward freely, and prices are now from £2 10s to £2 15s.

Seeds.— Ryegrass : The demand has now slackened, and but little business will result now till spring comes on. Cocksfoot: Numerous inquiries, and prices firming in consequence.

CHRISTCHDRCH CORN EXCHANGE.

Report (per N. P. Meyer, secretary) for week ending Frid y, May 9 :— The most noticeable feature of the week has been an inquiry for wheat at a prioe. Buyers are prepared to give a margin on the present outlook for extra prime lines, long-berried, as is usual in our export trade, being most in demand. Oats are not offering in any quantity, and farmers confident that a demand must ultimately set in, even if only to feed cheep, decline to sell at prices now offering. Barley: A few transactions in prime lines have taken place, but the majority of parcels on the market being below maltsters' requirements have been neglected. Beans and pease : A few inquiries for the former for export may be noticed. For pease, white eorts for splitting are wanted. Potatoes : Reports are somewhat more favourable as to the yield than were anticipated In some districts, and the market presents a slightly easier tone in consequence. Dairy produce unaltered. The following are our quotations for the week :— Wheat : Tuscan, 3s; pearl, '2a 10a ; Hunter's, 2a 8d to 2a 9d ; chickwheat, whole 2s 4d, broken 2s.
