TAPANUI.
Octobkb 30.— We have had very high Rales during the past week anil heavy rains also, aud at present the weather Js decidedly wintry. Entertainment.— The Gore Dramatic Club gave an entertainmeut in the Atheujcum Hall on the race night to a pcor house, and ceitainly the entertainment vi as on a par with the attendance. When we see people coming all the way from Go c and bringing a waggon load of scenery, &c. it is natural that we should expect something good, but our own local talent could "knock spots ' off iho visitors either iv sii>{:lng or act-ing. Unfortunately the.? doa'fc go well (ORethtr in harness, and whilst they are waiting strangers come in and "ecoop the pool." Dairy Factory.— l he o-ontracor is jurt about throcgh wirh his job, and as the phut, has landed and will nrrive here in a day or two, we may anticipate an early start beii'-g made. Business is very quiet here just now, as it always is after the races. Tho money is tak«n from the many and "put into tbe pockets of tho few and hidden away. It is an open question whether the races do not do more harm than g<iod to the district.
