GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.

Messrs Samuel Obr and Co., Stafford street, report for the week ending August 15, as follows : — Wheat.— The advices from Home during the past few days have been most encouraging, co much so that prices have gone up to the extent of 2d to 3d a bushel, so that many parcels which were overlooked by millers are now being brought into the market. Of course the advance will not benefit the South much, as 6tocks of milling quality are but slight indeed, whilo the inferior quality is heavy, and in this grade there is little change. Should any cheap freight come in the way, prices may even firm more up North. We quote prime milling up to Ha 4d ; medium, 2s 6d to 2s 9d ; fowl feed. Is lOd to 2s sd. Oats. — The tone of the market is very languid, and late quotations are not now obtainable, while this week's advices of the Melbourne and Sydney markets are not by any means satisfactory, and it is now a question whether these markets will rpspond to any advance, or at least to the extent it has done here. Green feed is also getting more plentiful on the other side, while the millers, too, are handicapped from sending oatmeal on account of the high price it takes to clear the cost. During the week we placed some at 1b lid, and this may b« quoted as the price for prime milling, and with but a limited demand ; short bright feed, Is lOdto Is lid ; medium, 1b 8d to le 9d. Barley.— There is comparatively nothing doing in this now, but what little there is is only for tiptop quality; .and at for prime malting, 4s 3d; milling, 3s to 3s 2d ; feed, 2s to 2s 6d. • Chaff. — Arrivals have not been large, and all lo'jb coming forward were readily sold, at for screened oaten aheef (if well cut) up to £3 ; ordinary, £2 ICs to £2 15s. Potatoes.— The demand has been fairly good, but the Sydney market having 'given way, prices if anything are easier, an<l sales moie difficult to make ; prices meantime are for Northerns up to JB4 5s ; Southerns, £"? 15s to £4, if prime. Seeds.— Hyegrass : Orders are now coming forward more freely and some good sized parcels are changing hands, but moit olo l it is Poverty Bay, which still maintains premier position. —Cocksfoot : A very fair demand exists, too, for this seed, and as the season advances prices may show an improvement. We quote priceß from 3d to 4|d, but all according to quality. Clover Seeds. -There has been a very brisk demand and inquiry during the r ast few days, and as the Trcvelyan, from Glasgow, which has a large quantity ahoard, is not turning np, purchases have hid to be made by those who have them aboard of her, while it is now an open secret that prices at home have gone up'to fmm £4 to £o per ton. We look for better prices being got era a month. Our eeeds have all been tested la earth, so we can vouch for their germiuViting powers. Samples on ax)plication.
