OTARA.

August 14.— The weather, with the exception of a few severe frosts, has been very mild of 1-te ; indeed much better than it was in the harvest time. The road to the bush has received some much needed repairs, but some parts of it are still in a b.-d st.ate. It is a pity that the County Council did not rep. ir it in a moie substantial manner, as it is our only ro. d for firewood, and all the timber, &o . for the Waipapa Beach diggings has to be carled over it. Goldmininc}.— The Waipapa Creek Goldmining Company are going to work their claim with a Welman dredge. They have got the pontoon completed, and they expect to be able to launch the dredge in about six weeks. By the way, it is reported that there is to be a great demonstration on the launching day. Joseph Thwaiti and p-rty have secured a large claim on the l^uch, and it is said that they have got a good prospect. Dairy Factory.— A factory for milk rondensiu'* and butter making ia about to be built here by Mr Marr, a gentleman who has previously been manager of two dairy factories. Some of the timber is already on the ground, and it is expected that the factory will be in working order early in October.
