Saturday, August 11. OUR MINERAL EXHIBITS.

The New Zealand Times says : — " With reference to the alleged poor display of New Zealand mining exhibits at the Melbourne Exhibition, we may mention that Mr James Hagle, a well-known West Coaster, who has been connected with mining since the first rush to Hokitika, returned yesterday by the Rotomahana from a trip to Melbourne. In an interview with him last night, he informed us that from what he saw in the New Zealand court at the exhibition, the mining exhibits at present are a disgrace to this colony. In his own words, he says : ' When I saw them I felt ashamed--that I was a New Zealand colonist. The specimena shown are a puny lot, and are entirely unworthy of the colony. They give no idea of the mineral wealth of New Zealand, especially the exhibits from the West Coast. I was 1 simply disgusted at what I saw.' " PETITIONING THE QUEEN. In rtase the Native policy bills of the Government become law, the Maoris will scud a monster petition to the Queen, praying her Majesty to annul the measure. The petitioners will remind her Majesty that when she was young they gave her their love, and many of them fought and bled to defend her throne. They will beg of her to protect them now in their hour of trouble from the machinations of those who seek to deprive them of their lands. SEACLIFF ASYLUM. I have just heard on the most reliable authority that the Seacliff Asylum is still on the move and is in a very dangerous condition.
