Gebymouth, May 24. The Jubilee races resulted in a good meeting. The fields were big. About a thousand people were present. There was fairly fine weather, but rain fell at the latter end of the day. Hurdle Handicap, of 40sovs. One mile and three-quarters. — Daisy, 1 ; Forward, 2 ; Little Jack, I Four others ran. WANGANUI STEEPLECHASE MEETING. Wanganui, May 24. This meeting came off to-day, the attendance being good and the weather all that could be desired. Good dividends were paid throughout the day. The meeting was remarkable for the jumping qualities of the horses, especially those running'in the Maiden. The rider of The Nun broke his arm in the Hack Steeplechase, but on the whole the meeting was a great success, and the introduction of flat races into the programme made it more interesting, besides benefiting the club and bringing more horses on to the field. The races were got off sharp to time. Waitangi, the ex-hack^ showed good form by winning the Maiden very easily and running very forward in the Handicap Steeplechase. Orient made good time in the Steeplechase — 6nrin 4f sec — running as true as steel, and the owner, Mr A. Shearsby, had him looking very well. MAIDEN STEEPLECHASE. MrDStratt's Waitangi, aged ... (Scott) 1 Mr W Holmes' Maminga ... (M'Oloskey) 2 Mr D Thurston's Merry legs ... (T Cameron) 3 Jubilee and Wideawake also started: Duck was scratched. This was a splendid race throughoat, all jumping grand and not one making a mistake. Waitangi led over the first obstacle, followed by Maminga and Merrilegs ; Jubilee last. Mermaid made play for half the distance, when she gave way and Ruapehu came up fast, but£could not get on terms with The Gem md was beaten by half a length, Hagar a length way, and the favourite, Shot, clean out of it. Harold ... ... (Barnes) 1 Eight others started, including Rangiora and Promotion, who were made favourites, but the pot boiled over by an outsider cropping up. M'Cormick was holding a good position on the off side, but ran into the trees and put himself out of it. Tune, 2min- 9|sec. Dividend, WANaANUI HANDICAP STBEPLECHABE. Orient ... ... ... (M'Oonkev) 1 Waitangi ... ... ... (Pell) 2 W... ... ... ... (Lyford) 3 Jilt, Merrylegs, Reform, and Landseer also started, Dusk being scratched. Victor showed jhe way, leadiug over the first jump, and then let Waitangi have the lead, Orient third, LandKer fourth, and Jilt last. At the bottom turn Reform and Merrylegs fell. Waitangi led P>st the stand and over the water jump, Victor c ose on his heels, and; Orient well up, going strong. Orient presently went to the front, tictor changing places with Waitangi. Coming past the stand Pathfinder was going very strong, ™t the pace was too hot for the Jilt. .From whs stage they all made the most of their founts, but Orient had a good lead, and won by wo lengths from Waitangi, Victor being a length behind for third' place. Butcher °°y led off with Tommy next, but he and The «on fell at the big furze hedge, then Allegro r\ command. Clarice struck the double very ""TOi but the rider stuck to him well. He then «ent the wrong course, leaving Butcher Boy, 4Uegro, and Telegram to themselves.
