Southland Land Board.

The following is a summary of the business transacted at the meeting of the 3rd iust : —

H. Vinning's application to have a road line cut in the Takitimo district was held over for report, as was also that of J. Collinson and others' application for section 35, block 4, Carapbelltown Hundred, for sawmill purposes. Mr Haider's application to be allowed to cut timber for fencing on Blackmount run without a fee was refused.

The application of Philip and William Jones to capitalise on sections 32 and 48, block 3, Menzies' Ferry, was granted.

Consideration of William Trethaway's application to be allowed to occupy section 6, block 31, Limehills, was postponed.

j. Stewart was granted leave to cut a road line through a neighbouring Crown section in order to get access to Ms land in block 32, Limehills.

Wm. Kerkton applied for a lease of a reserve, section 554, Hokonui district. — Held over.

Frew and Co. applied for an. adddition to their sawmill area. — Ranger to report.

H. M'Leod applied to lease sections 1 to 6 in Limehills town reserve. He also requested, should the land be put up to auction, valuation for some cottages which had been erected in connection with a sawmill formerly there.--— This the Board could not give, but gave leave to remove them should he not obtain the lease when it was put up to auction. Another application to lease section 7 of the same township was held over for the opinion of the Chief Surveyor.

Thomas Matheson applied to lease five acres at Nigbtcaps (Wairio), 10 chains distant from ground taken up for mining purposes. — Ranger to report.

W. Worthern applied by letter to lease for 14 years section 3, block 4, Wrey's Bush township. — Held over for the personal 'appearance of the applicant. The Government intimated that they could not withdraw the reserve from certain sections in the Hokonui and Forest Hill districts as they had been made for climatic and water conservation purposes ; also that they could not approve of any reduction being made on the upset price of sections ah Lowther, as had been recommended by the Board. An application by Henry Hammond to lease section 7, block 30, Limehills township was held over.

The following deferred payment applications in Otaitai Bush were granted:— A. E. Daniel, 12 acres, and Joseph Stinton, 13 acres, in block 0. There being two applicants for section 70, it was resolved to put it up to auction, as was also section OG2, Hokonui. W. L. M'Lean and Elizabeth Bryden were granted deferred payment allotments in Seaward Bush; Frederick Gk>"ugli one in block 8, Waianafaiku; J. Gtedney,

section 14, block 4, Makarewa; Geo. Morton, three sections in Hodgkinson ; F. B. Hilder and M. M. Aubrey, sections 07 and 98 respectively* Takitimo.
