Taieri County Council.

The ordinary meeting of the Taieri CountyCouncil was held on Friday. There were pre~ sent : Messrs Snow (in the chair), Bunting, Charters, Gow, Thompson, Graham, and Peter Grant (who took his seat for the first time for Outram riding). ■REPORTS. The inspector suggested that tenders be called for cleaning the ditches on the roadside near the East Taieri bridge. He recommended that the engineer report on the bridge at Long's Creek, as i£ was getting into bad repair. One of the approaches to the bridge at M'Donald's(Maungatua) had been washed down, and would require repairing at once. A new culvert was required on the road leading past Blatche's to Maungatua road ; cost about £5. A new culvert was also required on the road between Woodsido and Mr Campbell's farm; the cost would be about £10. On the road to Waipori Bush Mr Robinson had removed a large quantity of clay near his property and left the road in a dangerous state. The damage would require, to be repaired. — The recommendations submitted in the .report were adopted. The engineer reported having inspected the Silverstream and Mill Creek' bridges on the North Taieri road. A wing wall was required in each case. Tenders had been called for repairs. Two letters were read with reference to procuring poison for the destruction of small birds.— The council resolved to spend £10 in the purchase of strychnine. Letters in Otakia wrote stating that all the drainage from the hills at the back of the Otakia Hotel came down and flooded the road leading to the railway-station. — The matter was referred to Cr Graham and the inspector to report at next meeting. TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted : — Silverstream and Mill Creek Bridge. — W Wedderspoon, £51 195. Mosgiel Bridge. — Same tenderer, £40. Culvert at Westwood's. — W. Quill and Co., £8. ■ 200 Yards metal, Green Island to Brighton. — W. Quill and Co., £84 16s 6d. 120 Yards metal, Green Island. — James Spence, £36.
