Mr Donald Stronaoh (on behalf of the New Zeaand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for the week ending 29th March as fo'J warFat Cattle.— The supply yarded to-day was nearly the same in number as that of last week, being 214 head, of which 30 were stores. Demand was good at about the level of last week's prices. Bullocks (etched from £5 15 to £10 10s ; and cows, £4 17s (id to £8 10s. We sold a draft ol bullocks, on account of Mr Andrew Jl'Laren, at from £6 10s to £S. Quotation for best beef, 22s 6d per 1001b. Fat Calves.— Seven yarded, and sold at from 16s to 475.

Fat Sheep.— The very large supply— 4osl, l3o being stores, led to a decline of about Is 6J per head, at which there was fair competition ; but about 400 were turned out. Crossbreds sold at from lib, 9d to 16a 6d, nnd merinos 6s to lla (Id. We disposed of drafts of crossbreda as follows:— On account of Messrs Stephen Adam (Hampden), 104 at 11s 9d ; James Mem, 34 at 355; Wilson Brothers, 78 (ewes) at 10s ; A. M'Laren, 72 at 14s ; S. 11. Quartley, 75 at 12s 6d to 13s 3d ; and Shanks and Barr, 34 at 14s to 14s 3d ; and on account of Mr Robert Paton, 42 merinos at 10a. We quote prime mutton 2^d per Id. Pat Lambs. — 316 penned, which sold at from 6s to 10s 6d. We disposed of drafts on account of Messrs A. M'Laren, J. and S. Wilson and William Shand.

Fat Pigs. — 151 offered, and sold at from 19s to 37s for porkers, and 5s 6d to 17s 6d for stores. We sold a consignment for Mr Daniel Coll, Waitohi Fiat, at from 21s to 37s per head.

Store Sheep.— The demand for all descriptions continues good, but is strongest for crossbreds, the inqnirv being considerable for stubble and turnipfeeding. Wool.— The most recent telegrams from London report a maintenance of the improvement recorded on fine wools, but inferior appear to have undergone a decline. The secmul series of auctions has been lixed to commence on May 16th.

Sheepskins.— Our catalogue on Monday consisted mainly of miscellaneous lots of butchers' pelts aad short-woolled skins, prices for which showed no alteration from those of last wcplc. We quote fullwoolled merino and crossbreds, 4s to 5s Cd ; lambskins, Us to 2s lOd ; and pelts, Od to 2s 2d each ; greasy skins in bales, 7d per lb. Rabbitskins.— We cleared a few lots at from 4?d to 9d per lb for small to medium-furred skins. Hides. —No change to report, the demand continuing fairly good at la^t week's prices. Tallow.— Under good competition wo cleared several lots at biddings wnich showed an improvement on tboae of last week. Fairly rendered tallow realised up to 28s 6d per cwt. ; me»ium 24s to 26a 6d ; inferior, 16s 6d to 20s. Butchers' rough fat, 20s per owt. Grain. — Wheat : The market continues firm at last week'd quotations, and no difficulty is experienced in placing good to prime milling wheat thereat. For medium the inquiry is not very strong, but inferior and fowls' feed is much wanted, supplies at present be'ng almost nil. We quote prime milling, 4s fid to 4« 7d ; medium, 43 to As id ; inferior and fowls' feed, Is (id to 3a 4d per bushel. Oats : The arrivals not being in excess of domain! holdors continue firm at

late quotations, which we accordingly repeat. Prime milling, 3r ; bright feed, 2s lOd to 2s lid per bushel. Barley : Nothing to report locally. We call attention to advertisement of sale ot wheat, oats, and barley to be held by this Company, at Studholme Junction, on Monday next.

Fat Cattle.— 2l 4 head were yarded, about 30 head of which weie little better than stores, the rest fair to good quality. There was a fair demand, and prices Obtained were about equal to last week's. We yaidcd 130 head, and sold them as follows :-On account of Mr l'ctrie, 13 bullocks from £7 7a (id to £8 15s ; on account of Mr Thomas Ayson (Birchwood), 25 bullocks at from £7 2s Cd to £11 2s Cd ; on account of Mr W. Moore, 19 bullocks at from £6 2s Cd to £7 10s ; on account of Mr Alexander Young (Flag Swamp), 25 bullocks at from £6 178 6d to £7 15s; on account of Messrs M'Auleyand Lamont, 27Jbullocks at from £fa to £0 10s ; and on account of Messrs H Haggerfcy, W. A. Todd, and others, 21 head bullocks and cows, former at up to £7 2s Cd, and latter at up to £6 17s Od. We quote prime beef at from 20s to 22s 6d per 1001b. Fat Calves.-Seven penned, and sold at up to 41s each. , . , , Fat Sheep\— There was an enormous supply to-day, no less than 4051 being penned. The trade's supplies being low, there was a fair demand, and almost every lot of sheep was sold, at prices, however, from Is to 2s lower than last week's. Our sales consisted of 2160 head, as follows :— On account of Messrs Ro9s Brothers (Meadowbank), 201 crossbreds-wethers at 13s 6d and ewes at 12s 9d ; on account of Mr John M Intyre (Thornbury), 43 crossbreds at 12s 6d and 126 merino wethers at 83; on account of Mr W. Moore, 201 crossbred wethers at 12s 9d ; on account of James Shand, Esq., 203 merino ewes and wethers, former at from 8s 3d to 8s Cd, and latter at 10s Cd ; on account of James Gall, Esq., 786 crossbreds at from 13s to 14s 6d ; on account of Messrs Craig and Wylic, 124 crosshreds at 12s ; on account of Mr W. Geary, 147 crossbreds at from lls 3d to 12s 6d ; on account of Mr W. Strain (Waihola), 36 crossbreds at 13s; on account of Wm. Somerville (Milburn), 36 crossbreds at 13s Cd. We quote prime mutton at 2£d per lb. Privately we have placed 300. Fat Lambs.— 3l6 penned. Wo sold 211 as follows :— On account of Mr John Draper, 67 at 9s; on account of Messrs Ross Brothers, 55 at S9 ; on account of Mr Moore, 50 at Cs; on account of Messrs Craig and Wylie, 10 at 7s 9d ; on account of Mr Muir, 20 at 9s ; and on account of W. Geary, 19 at 6s. Pigs.— There was an excessive supply forward, between 300 and 400 being penned. We sold 241. A very nice draft of 20 from Windsor Park averaged almost 50s each. Bacon pigs fetched from 40s to 555 ; porkers from 23s to 255 ; suckers, from 4s Cd to lls 6d ; and stores from 6s to 235. Store Cattle.— There will soon be a demand for goodconditioned well-grown bullocks for turnip fattening. As yet, however, the inquiry is but limited. At Mosgiel on Monday last, by auction, »c sold 115 hea-i as follows :— Three and four year bullocks, from £4 17s 6d to £6 12s 6d ; and one and two-year-old?, at 50s each. Store Sheep.- Since our last report wo have no change either in demand or values to note. At present we have buyeis for from 4000 to 5000 four and five-year old merino wethers ; also for the same number of crossbreds. During the past week we have sold 3000 full-mouthed merino wethers and 1000 fullmouthed ewes at satisfactory prices. Flock Rams.— Our sales for the past week consist of 40 two-tooth merino ro.ms from the flock of Jamoi Logan. Esq, Greenvale ; 30 full-mouthed merino rams from the flock of Watson Shennan, Esq, Conical Hills ; 60 Leicester rams from the N Z. & A. Land Co's Clydevale Estate, and 28 Leicesters on account of Mr J. J. MAuley, Portobello ; all at satisfactory prices. Horses. -The market continues to be well supplied wifh horses of inferior description. These are not ia demand; but anything fresh, young, and sound, coming to band commands ready sale. For Saturday's sale— 6B head, of all sorts, made up our catalogue for the day. About one half of these found buyers at quotations We quote fhyt-class draughts at from £30 to £35; medium, £20 to £25; good hacks and li<*ht-harness horses, £20 to £25 ; medium, £12 to £15 ; light and inferior, £3 to £0. '" Wool.— Under date London, 27th inst., the following cablegram has been .received :— "At the wool sales to-day 11,000 bales were catalogued.. Prices were firmly maintained. Inferior and faulty wools of all kinds in favour of buyers." In the local market there is but little doing now. Sheepskins.— We held our weekly sale last Monday as usual. We submitted a good-sized catalogue, made up for the most part of- country skins. There was good competition, and the following prices were obtained : -Town butchers' skins, pelts, fetched from Is lid to 2s 3d ; lambskins, from Is Id to 2s 8d ; country skins, from lid to 5s 7d. Hides.— We did not offer any on Mondaj'. Tallow. — On Monday wo disposed of several tons at quotations— viz. :- For prime mutton, £23 to £29; medium, £26 to £27 ; inferior, £23 to £24 ; rough fat, £18 to £20 per ton. Grain.— Wheat continues in fair demand. Prices are as follow: -For prime Tuscan or purple straw, 4s 7d per bushel; prime red straw and velvet, 4s Cd; medium, 4s 3d to 4s sd ; inferior, 2s 6d to 3s Cd. During the week we have sold 11,603 bushels at quotations. Oats are in demand, and any good lots coming to hand are readily placed at quotations, which are 3s for first-class feed, and 3s to 3s Id for milling ; for a very prime sample of potato oats (for seed) we obtained 3s 2d. Altogether during the week we sold 10,000 bushels. Barley: We have no transactions to note.

Messrs Maclean and Co. report for the week ending 29th March as follows :—

Fat Cattle —To-day's market was again fully supplied, 214 head being yarded. With the exception of about 50 head being prime quality, the remainder were only fair to good. All were cleared by the trade with fair competition at prices similar to last week. Prime bullocks brought from £8 10s to £10 17s 6d ; ordinary, £5 10s -o £7 15s; cows, from £4 15s to £9 2s Gd. We yarded and sold 75 head as follows :— On account of Mr A. North (Portobello), 7 head bullocks and cows at up to £6 17s Gd; on account of Mr Sommerville, 8 head bullocks at from £6 17s 6d to £8 15s ; on account of R. Charfceris, Esq. (Taicri), 11 head bullocks at from £6 10s to £9 2s Cd ; on account of Mr Brown (Taieri), 25 head at for bullocks from £7 5s to £10 ; and on account of Mr P. Ayson (Balclutha), 7 head at for bullocks £7 17s (id, and for cows £6 2s 6d ; and on account of other vendors, 17 head at quotations. ' We quote prime 22s 6d per 100 Jb. Fat Calves.— Seven yarded. We sold 4at from 10s to 38s. Fat Sheep.-For to-day's requirements there was an excessive supply of 4051, consisting of 3500 crossbreds, and the remainder merinos. This number proved slightly beyond the supply wanted, consequently a reduction of about Is to Is 6d had to be submitted to ; but still there was good competition, aud all were cleared. Crossbreds brought from 11s to 16s 6d ; merinos, 6s 6d to 10s Cd. We sold 105 prime crossbreds on account of J. F. Herbert, Esq. (Tapanui), at 16s 3d ; on account of Mr John Bruce (Brighton), 79 do at 123 ; on account of James Rutherford, Esq (Summerhill), 37 do at 15s ; on account of Mr M'Donnell (Stirling), 72 do at 13s 3d ; on account of Mr George Crosbie (Edendalc), 106 do at 15s 6d, and 85 merinos at 7s 3d ; on account of Mr J. Wilson (Balclutha), 37 croasbreds at 14s Cd ; and on account of Mr Pctrie (Balelutha), 70 do at 13s 9d. We quote prime mutton barely 2]d per lb. Fat Lambs.— 3ls were penned, selling from 7s 6d to j 108 6d.

Fat Pigs.— A full supply of 151 camo forward, and sold from 5s to 47s Gd. We sold 74 at quotations. Horses.— At Dunodin Tattorsal's, on Saturday last, we olfercd a number of heavy draughts and lightharness horses, aud disposed of the greater part at quotations of last week. Country Sales.— At Stirling Yards on Thursday, the 23rd inst., we held our monthly sale, vyhen there was a large quantity of stock forward. Store cattle realised from £3 3s to £5 5-r ; merino ewes, 4s 9d to 8s ; do wethers, 5s to 63 ; crosbbrciis, 8s to 12s. On Fiiday, the 24th inst., at Waipahi Station, we held a clearing sale of surplus stock. There was a large attendance of buyers from all parts of the Province, and bidding being spirited, all the lots were cleared at die following rates, viz.:— 7oo six -tooth three-quarter-bred, wuthers at 12s lOd ; 9.i0 bix-tooth three-quarter-bred* ewes, at 11s 2d to lls 4d ; 800 halfbrcd ewes, 8s 3d to Si Od ; 900 merino wethers, 6s Id to 8s 5d ; 900 merino ewes, full-mouthed and in low condition, 4s to 4s 3d,; • 50 merino rams, 28s to 40s ; 47 llomncy Mar9h rams,' 31s; 20 head young cattle, from £2 5s to £3 15s. We have to draw attention to our sale at Waipori this day, Thursday, 30th inst., of about 40 Clydesdale mares and geldings, light colts and fillies, 70 hend fat and store cattle, implements, &c ; on Friday, the 31st inst., at .yards, Bcvlclutha, cattle, sheep, horses, &c; at Mr Duke's farm, Stirling, on Thursday, the Oth April, clearing sale of stock and implements ; at .Mark Hill, Warepa, on Friday, the 7th April, clearing sale 1000 mixed sheep, 50 head cattle, horses, and implements.

Property Sales.— At our rooms on Tuesday, the 28th inst., we offered and sold on account of Mr Malcolm Muir, his valuable farm, situated'on Inch-Clutha, containing 225 acres, which, af er spirited bidding, was knocked down to Messrs 11. C. Cameron and Co. at £19 por acre. We would direct attention to the following sales :-This day, 30th inst., at Waipori, on account of Air R. Robinson, 212 acres in Clarendon district; and on Saturday, 15th April, in our rooms, on account of J. Wool.— The following 13 the last cablegram from the Home market, dated March 27th :-" At the wool sale to-day 11,000 bales were catalogued. Prices were firmly maintained. Inferior aud faulty wools are in favour of buyers." Sheepskins.— We submitted a fair catalogue at our sale on Monday last, and with fair competition. The catalogue was cleared at prices similar to last week. Crossbreds bi ought up to 5s 4d ; lambskins, Is 6d to 2s 9d ; pelts, Is 2d to 2s Cd. Hides. -No alteration to chronicle, 4d per lb being value of well-conditioned hides.

Tallow.— There is a good demand, and 28s Cd is obtainable for wcll-rcnclercd tallow, and iJOs Od for rough fat. Grain.- Wheat : For prime milliug 4s Cd per bushel is obtained, but for inferior aud ordinary samples there is little doing ; we quote 4s to 4s 4d ; fowls' feed, 2s Cd to 3s Cd. Oats : There is still an active inquiry for oat*, and lots arriving meet with ready sale at 2s lOd to 2s lid for good, and 3s for milling. Barley : No change to repori^ ________

Messrs Donald Rkid and Co. report for the week ending 29th March, ISB2, as follows :—

Fat Cattle —214 yarded. A fair proportion of thesu were primo, and most of the rest useful quality. The sales opened at fully last week's prices. Bullocks sold at £5 15s to £10 10s ; cows, £4 17s 6d to £S 10s— 01 equal to 20s to 22s 6d per 1001 bs for prime beef. VVu yarded hi head, aud sola on account of John Sutherland, E--q, East Taieri, 7 bullocks (light weights), £0 5s to £7 2s Cd, 0 heifers ,C sto £C 10s ; on account, of Mr J. Oughton, Jane-field, 4 stoer3 £4 10s ; 011 account of Mr J. Kirkland, Green Island, 9 bullocks up to £5 Jss ; on account of Messrs M'Donald aud Reid, 1G bullocks up to £10 10s ; and for Messrs Waldie, Brown, and Stoddart, C head up to £5 10s.

Fat Calves.— 7 yarded. These were really prime qualitVi and sold at 16s to 27s 6d each. Fat Sheep. -4051 penned ; consisting of 130 merinos of inferior to medium quality, and 3921 crosbbreds, chiefly prime, and including some extra heavy we'ghts. This, one of the largest supplies seen for some time, proved far beyond trade requirements, graziers buying freely. A 'clearance was made at a reduction of 2s fid to 2s a head on last week's prices. Crossbreds sold at lls !)d to 16s 6d, merino prime 10s to lls 6d, others Cs to 7s 9d. We sold on account of Mr J. M'Nab, 50 crossbreds 12s 3d ; on account of Mr W. L. Riddell, 53 crossbreds, 124 Cd to 16s tid ; on account of Mr D. MEwing, 120 merino ewes, 63 ; on account of Mr J. Patrick, 4G merino ewes, 7s ; and for Mr D. Kelly, Kaifcangata, 70 prime crossbreds at 14s 6d. We quote prime mutton 2W per lb. Fat Lambs. - 315 penned ; these included some prime lots. There was fair competition for best quality, which sold at 83 9d to 10s 6d, others Qi to 7s 6d. We sold for Mr J. Patrick 14 at 8s 9d ; for Mr W. L. Riddell 9at 8s 3d ; for Mr Hugh Frast-r, Waihemo, 49 at 7s 3d to 7s 9d ; and for others 50 at 63 3d. Fat Pigs.— lsl yarded, fully of these were good and prime porkers. Thcie sold at from 193 to 35s ; stores, 12s6dto 17s 6d; suckers, 5s 6d to 10s. We quote pork 3d per lb. Store Cattle.— There is enquiry for forward conditioned bullocks. We have some mixed lots of young cattle for sale. Store Sheep.— There is still a good demand for halfbred sheep of all descriptions. The demand for fullmouthed merinos is not quite so brisk. For young sheep there is fair demand. Wool.— On Monday we offered and disposed of a few bales There was fair competition. We subjoin brandi and prices of the lots :— JC, 1 bag greasy merino 7}d, Ido pieces, s|d; P, 1 bale greasy merino 9Jd, 1 bag pieces sijd ; HP (conjoined), 2 bags mixed Sid, 1 do pieces 6W; HS, 1 do pieces 4Jd ; R, 1 do pieces CJd ; N, Ido crossbred lOd, 2do crossbred Sd, 1 de locks 2id ; D, 1 do locks 3.} d ; SS 1 do pieces 4|d ; C, Ido pieces, 4-} d; X over D, 1 bale greasy merino and crossbred 9d, 2 do locks and pieces 2d ; H, 3 do greasy merino 9d, 3 do crossbred and merino 9d. Sheepskins. — At our regular sale we disposed of a large catilosrue. For all lots suitable to trade requirements, including butchers' green skins, there was a brisker demand and higher prices. Dry country skinß ruled low ; green crossbreds sold at Is 4d to 2s Id ; dry do, Is 3d to 5s 8d ; merinos, Is 3d to 5s 4d ; lambskins, Is lOd to 23 6d.

Hides.— This market has a drooping tendency, more especially fojnjijight and inferior descriptions, which be now qtfoted at 3£d ; heavy sound lots fetch 4d per lb. I Tallow.— We cleared out all parcels to hand ; prices if anything ruled in favour of buyers. Butchers' mixed rendered sold at 28s ; medium quality, 265 ; rough fat, 18s 3d to 19s per ton. Grain.— Wheat : During tho week a steady inquiry and demand has been experienced, but as buyers reluctantly meet the views of vendors, there is not much business doing. Our week sales have been 2645 sacks, at 4s 4d to 4s tid ; and for some choice Tuscan, Id to 2d more. Medium quality is worth 3s lid to 4s 2d ; inferior and fowls' feed, 2s lid to 3s Cd. Oats: 'J his market is now quite bare, and sales are readily made at full quotations. Milling sorts are much inquired for, with faw offering. We quote heavy milling 3s to 3s Id ; feed, 2s lid to 3s, at which prices we sold 4250 sacks. Barley is very scarce, and for bright malting samplos 4s to 4s Cd is obtainable ; feed and milling, 3s to 3s Oil. Potatoes are scarce, and sold at 603 per ton, sacks oxtra. Rye-grass.— Clean, well-dressed samples sell at 4s to 5s 3d per bushel.
