Proposed Agricultural College.
A meeting, convened at the instance of Mr J. C. Brown, M.H.R., and the Rev. W. Jenner, was held on the 16th at the office of Mr Bathgate to consider the advisability and practicability of instituting an Agricultural College in this district. Mr Macandrew, M.H.R., occupied the chair. There were also present the Hon. W. H. Reynolds, Messrs H. S. Fish, H. Driver, V. Pyke, J. Bathgate, J. C. Brown. T. Braoken, M.H.R.'s, and Messrs D. Reid and J. W. Jago. , The matter was introduced to the meeting by Mr Jenner, who has taken great interest in the subjectj and has been for some time -in communication respecting it with a number; of gentlemen. After some conversation, and an expression of opinion by those present in favour of the scheme, it was unanimously agreed .— " That a memorial be addressed to the Council of the Otago University urging the expediency of taking necessary action by application for a parliamentary grant, and otherwise for establishing an Agricultural College in this district, and strongly recommending the matter to their favourable consideration."
Messrs Macandrew, Brown, Reid, and Jenner were appointed to prepare and forward the memorial.
