First Day.—Maeoh 18th.
Gkeymotjth. March 19th, Tho postponement of Friday's races through the rain had a bad effect. For the Trial Stakes Marie Stuart and Dick cantered over the course, being the only Btarters, and both owned by Mr Firth, who declared to win with Marie. GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB HANDICAP, OI 125 soys. Two miles. Lonplands, 88t 121b .. .. .. 1 Satellite, 7st 1216.. .. .. ..2 Whalebone, 6st 81b .. .. .. 8 Time, 3 mm. 57 sec. The Handicap Hurdle was won by Dick easily, with Shark second, and Whalebone third. The stewards afterwards declared Shark the winner, on account of being crossed by Dick. There was much dissatisfaction with the ruling, and a collection was started to give Mr Firth the amount of the stakes (£3O). The Railway Stakes Handicap was won by Rory, Marie Stuart second, York third. Tne Produce Stakes was won by Freedom, beating Tryagain and Mutual. There was very bad weather in the latter part of the afternoon. Second Day.— March 20th. About 1000 people attended the races yesterday. The weather was fine till 4 p.m., when it became showery. GOLDFIELDS HANDICAP, Of 100 soys. One and a-half mile. Satellite. Bst .. .. ..1 Rore, 7st7lb .. .. .. 2 Ta,lent,-Bst 101b .. .. ..8 This was rather a slow race. Young Firth rode Satellite, winning the race in fine style. HURDLE HANDICAP, Of 40 boys. Two miles. Mr Firth's Dick, 9at 101b ' .. ..1 Mr Brimble's Whalebone, Bst 121b .. 2 Mr Osborne's Shark, 9st 121b . . . . 8 Every jump was taken cleanly, Dick won by three lengths. GREY VALLEY STAKES HANDICAP, Of 60 soys. One mile and three-quarters. Longlands, 9st 71b .. .. ..1 Satellite, Bat 71b .. .. ..2 Mario Stuart, 7sfc 101b . . . . 3 This was a capital race, Longlands being far in the rear, and people thinking he was quite out of it, but about half a mile from home he began to come up, and went through the field with extraordinary ease. FORCED HANDICAP, Of 20 sors. One mile and a-quarter. Mr Firth declared to win with Marie Stuart, but Dick won rather easily, with Nikau second, and Marie Stuart third. Much dissatisfaction was felt, a great many people thinking Marie Stuart should have won.
