Our Volunteers.
The City Guards held another competition on Saturday morning for the disputed Union Company's trophy. _ The weather was dull. Those occupying leading positions in previous contests made very close firing, and the result showed that Volunteer Coventry and Volunteer Provo had each made a total of 24 points, Corporal Webster 23. According to the conditions, the highest scorer in Saturday morning's match (Volunteer Coventry) wins on the tie ; but a protest has been entered by Volunteer Provo that Volunteer Smith was unfinancial for December. This has to be considered by the Shooting Committee of the company. The following were tho principal scores made on Saturday ; — 200 600 COO yds. yds. yds. Tl. Leth aby's Cup was fired by the Dunedin Naval Brigade, at tho Pelichet Bay range, on Saturday afternoon. The conditions are— 2oo, 400, and 500 yards ; five shots at each ; the highest scorer counting five points, the second four, | and so on ; the competitor making 21 points | first to be declared the winner. Gunner Donaldson gave four prizes in the above match — viz., the four quarters of a pig, which were keenly competed for, as will be seen below.
