FORTROSE. (from our own correspondent.)

A petition, signed by nearly 40 residents and settlers, has been forwarded to our member for presentation to the House of Assembly, Wellington, praying that the Otara Runs may be - set apart, as originally petitioned— viz., for deferred payment settlement ; and praying that • Run 257 may be set aside as an endowment for Toi Tois Harbour.

The weather has been unusually fine the past fortnight, which hap enabled our farmers to , make great progress in breaking up. Another petition is likely to bo needed ' phortly, which will be for an acre reserve on each side of the bridge lately let by contract Indeed, it will be a somewhat amusing sight to see vehicles taking a round turn in these said acres, in approaching and after crossing this - bridge.
