MACRAES. (from our own correspondent.)

A public meeting was held in tin School on the 11th iuat. A large attsudaucc of the residents assembled. The following resolutions were carried : — "That in the opinion of this meeting it is desirable that a survey of the Palmerston - Stonebum Ituilway be made by the Government prior to deciding on the Otago interior railway ; and that the Hon. Geo. M'Lean be written t>, asking him t r ) bring the matter under the notice of the present session of Parliament." Secondly. " That H. W. Robinson, Esq., ll.M\, Na^eby, be asked to recommend to the Government the appointment of some competent person to act as resident Clerk of the Court at Macraes." Thirdly. "That the Chief Postmaster be respectfully requested to establish a Money Order Office and Postoffice Savings Bank in thi3 district as a very urgent necessity exists for such institutions in Macraes." The Secretary was instructed to convey the above resolutions to the officers in question, and after the customary complimeut to the Chairman (Mr M'Neill), the meeting terminated.

I would take this opportunity of urging the pressing necessity for acceding to the requests of the residents embodied ia the abo7e resolutions.

Great inconvenience is experienced by residents in transacting any business of a monetary nature, owing to the fact that there ia no bank ; neither ia there a money order office nearer than Hyde or Palmerston. I therefore hope that we may be successful in securing the object of our desires.
