THE CHORAL SOCIETY'S CONCERT.
The fust concert of the reorganised Choral Society took place on the 3rd in the University Hall, in the presence of an audience that filled every available corner of the Hall. The programme consisted of Sterndale Bennett's saored cantata, " The Woman of Samaria," for the first part, and a miscellaneous selection for the second. Were we to say that the concert was an unqualified success, or one that fairly represents what can be done by our local musicians, we should be stating that which is not strictly correct ; but we will say that, considering the unusual difficulties the Committee have have had to encounter in the reorganisation of the Society, the concert was an excellent one in many respects, and one that, as a whole, will bear favourable comparison with many that have preceded it.
