GOOD TEMPLARY.
Judging by the following particulars, furnished us by a member of the Order, Good Templarism still progresses at Port Chalmers, where a fevr honest men and women are doing their best to promote the cause of temperance, not forgetting the seamen of vessels in port and there is abundant evidence that the seed thus sown has germinated. The All Nations Lodge, No. 13, held its first meeting of the present quarter in the Foresters' Hall on Monday evening last, Bra J. Harrod, W.C.T., in the chair, and preliminaries and correspondence having been disposed of, a candidate was balloted for, and initiated. It may be observed here that at the previous meeting 15 candidates, of whom 12 were, seamen, became members of the Order. The subject of the ensuing _ anniversary of the Ledge, about the 26th instant, was introduced and discussed, and a Committee of management appointed Notice of a mesling of the Degree Temple was also given to confer the Degree Fidelity, and instal officers, degree members bein°invited to attend. Local Brethren and Sisters who were eligible then received certificates and a dispensation for one who was uade^-
18 years was asked for 'from 1 the" ! district deputies. - The W.S.rW.F.'&TiKT.TWfIfi 1 , and the Finance Committee brought up their respective reports for the past term., .From these it appeared that the quarter commenced with 239 members of good standing on the books of the Lodge, viz., 172 brothers, and ,6l sisters. There were initiated' • during the quarter 42 male and 6 female' candidates* whilst three brethren joined by card, bringing the total up to 290 members. Bat during th,e same period 17 members, of whom one was' a 1 sister, and the majority seamen , leaving,- jin their vessels, withdrew by clearance, j whilst one brother was expelled, • and ' 31, memf bers, of whom six were sisters, were sus4 pended for non-payment of dues ; making si. total of 50 to be deducted from the main ao« count, thus placing the list at the close of the* quarter at 240 members, ot whom 175, were brothers and 65 sisters, all of good standing.' With regard to financial matters, the receipts of the quarter amounted to L 23 9a 9d, which, with balance of Lll 5s from last quarter's aoj count, made L 34 14s 9d. The expenditure amounted fco L 29 19s 4d, Lt> 9a 7d in excess, 'of actual receipts, and leaving a balance in hand; of L 4 15s 5cL The several reports having been received and adopted, Bro. T. J. Thomson? D.G.W.C.T., in the unavoidable absence of Bro. Kermode, the W.C.T; elect, was voted; to the chair, and, assisted by Bro.,;Monsoa as G.W.S., and Bro. Menelaus-as G.W.M., pro^ ceeded to instal officers for the ensuing term a« follows :— W.C.T., Bro., T. J; Thomson' W.V.T., Sister Shea; W.S., J. Master ; W.F.S., Bro. W. Maniss; W.T., Bro.; ,T> Thomson ; W.C, Sister *Chalker ; W.M., Bro. Shields; 1.G., Bro. 0. Dove; 0.G., Bro. Ohalker; A.S., Bro. Closs; D.M.',.8r0. f A^, Dove; L.H.S., Sister M. Best ; R.H.S., Bkv Hewitt ; Bro. Harrod in due cource assuming the chair of the P. W.C.T. The several;offlcers having returned thanks, which were .responded toby the L.D., several' propositions for mem? ship were received, Committees appointed, and the Lodge closed in due form, at 10.40 p,m; There was a large attendance, inoludingvisitqrs from the" sister Lodges, Olive Branch and Hops to Prosper.
