ENTERTAINMENT AT WAITAHUNA.
A most successful entertainment was given in Coghill'B Assembly Room, . Waitahiroa; on the evening of~Wedaesday, 1b« August, in aid of the funds of the' Tnapeka ! Hospital, the large hall being crowded. " The entfer, tainment was got.upbythe .WaitaUuna , DV« trict School pupils,- assisted by several other parties in the district. .Mr J?. oadaille rs w!bo officiated as chairman, opened the proceedings with a few remarks,- explaining- thaobjeotof the gathering, and stated that all the performers had given their services gratuitoMly as well as the Hall having been placed at their disposal free of cost, so that'aU the proceeds woulj g6 u t6,,the benefit of the Hospital.' ".The entertainmentconsistedof aonga ftnl'reaaing*. Those who took cart in the former were ' Mrs Comyn (Waitahuoa), and- : Mrs t Needham, Messrs E. J. Towsey, Downes, Miller; Holm* den, Hill, J. J. Woods, George. (oornet),?tfnd Richardson (violin) from Lawrence; Mr Reid (teacher of singing),' and Messrs Anderson and Love, of Waitahuna.' Mr'.Fraer; Lawrence, recited Beyeral humorous,: pieces during the evening, and the souga, arid glees were interspersed ,with several readings and scenes rendered by the pupils of the (District School under the training of their teachers, Mr Stables and Miss Thomas. Upwards^of 50 ladies and gentlemen cane from Lawrence by special train,' which had been granted on the usual terms.; A pleasing eveut ; at' t&e close was the singing of Mr Bracken's anthem to, Mr Wood's music. -The programnie, which was a very lengthy one, w'aa concluded Bhortly after 11 p.m., and votes of thanks, 4o the performers and the chairman, proposed by Messrs Higgins and Stables, having\been carried by acclamation, every one went away aatisCed with having spent an agreeable evening.
