; The eleation of a candidate tn fill the sea*, iv ithe Town Council for High Ward vacated by jthe resignation of Mr Dodson came oft at Port .Chalmers on Saturday. It waa a very quiet 'affair, only two candidates, Messrs De Maua ;and Nicoolls, being in the field. The poll was fdeolared by Mr A. M'Kinnon, Returning, jOfficer, soon after 4 o'clock, the result being aa -follows:— : - • DeMaus 88 Nicolls ... 52 ; The candidates briefly returned thanks for the support accorded them, and the proceedings terminated in the usual manner.
