ST. KILDA COUNCIL.

The first meeting of the newly-elcted St. Kiida Council was held on the 3rd. Present— The Mayor (Mr C. Moore), and' Messrs Halligan, Mitcheil, Roughton, and Brady. Mr Vickery, Town Clerk, tendered his resignation ; but after some discussion, It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Brady, seconded by Mr Roughtox— " That the matter should be adjourned for a week." Mr _D. Proudfoot wrote, cautioning the •Council against opening any urains whereby his property may be injured. i Mr Roughton brought under the notice of the Council a resolution passed on the 25th July, which was to tho effect that all works in the Musselburgh Ward be suspended for the next 12 months. He moved that that resolution be rescinded, in cider that Musselburgh .Ward migh l ; participate in the works being •carried out.

Mr Bbady seconded the motion, which was ■agreed to.

A letter was received from the South Dunedin Council, stating that it would contribute .one-half the expense of metalling a portion of ; the Bay View Rood. '< It was agreed that tenders should be called '■{ or 2GO yards of metal for this work. It was also agreed, on the motion of Mr ■Roughtox, seconded by Mr Beady, that the Clerk be instructed to write to the contractor .for Ferguson 3treet, requesting him to complete the woik in terms of the original contract. ' Plans and specification of a drainage scheme •by Mr Hay were laid upon the table. ; _ The MAYOR suggested that competctive deaigus should be invited* He did not consider ithat they would have any diflicnity in raising jthe money if the business was conducted 1 \ Jt was resolved that the subject should be' loonsjdered at a special meeting to be held on :Tuesday next. ; Mr Halliqan tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret, , My Brady was appointed Treasurer, Massr* Brady and Rougbton a Works Committee, and.
