Presentation to Mr T. S. Findlay.

On Wednesday evening, about 50 neighbours and friends gathered at fche^resid^nce of Mr J. Findlay, Orawia, to make a presentation to his son, who has joined the Expeditionary Forces. /A very pleasant evening waa spent m dancing and cards until 12 o'clock, at which hour supper was handed round. The crowd then adjourned to the house, as Mrs Findlay, who is just recovering from a long illness, was not able .togo to the barn. A toast was proposed by Mr \T. Mathleson, "The King and Allies." Mr Mathieson outlined the reason for the gathering at Mr and Mrs Findlay's as their son had volunteered for the front, 'and they could not see him leave without^ showing tneir respect for him, and they had gathered to make him a small presentation. In handing him a handsome wristlet watch on behalf of those present, he wished him " God speed" and a safe return. Mr Tom Fiudlay, m, returning thanks to his many friends, said that he would cany with him thoughts of the many good times he had spent with them, and hoped to see many more of the Orawia boys on the Continent before long. After the following toast list had been gone through, the gathering, after singing " AuldLany: Syne," dispersed: — "Army and Navy," proposed by Mr G. A. Soutt, and responded to by Mr McChlcry ; "The Parents," by Mr S. Fowls ; and "The Volunteers," by Mr J. Mathieson. During tho evening, songs were given t>y Mosdamos Haguii and John King. '
