Banquet and Social at Orawia.

From our own Correspondent. > A banquet and sooial was held at Orawia on 27th ult. , m honour of the following , members of the Reinforcements from the district : — Messrs T. IS. ITindlay, A. Findlay, Win. Mclntosh, S. Roynolds, 0. Butler and A. Scott. At 8.30 about 200 people gathered to clv justice to the men who are about to leave tiSij The chairman (Mr McUhlery) made a £ew remarks as to the need for volunteers, and the response from the district, and called on all to drink to the " King and Allies," and affcur siuqing the National Anthem, the supper was dono full justice to. He called on Mr Brass for a song, which was encored. Toast, "Army and Navy," proposed by Mr E. K. Sim, respondod to by Mr G. A. Scott, who outlined the splendid

work done by thu Navy, and how the Army had uphold its traditions on the Western front. Song by Mr Murray (encored). Toast, " Our Guests," proposed by Mr W. J. Johnstone, and responded to by Private Charles Butler. Address by Mrs John King. Piano solo by Miss Battersby. Song by Mr K. K. Sim (encored). Toast, "The Parents," proposed by Mr Lay, aiad responded to by Mr John Findlay. Song by Mrs John King. Toast, " Now Zealanders at the Front," proposed by Mr Watson, who said that r-o one could but be proud of the way our soldiers had fought at the Dafdanelles. The chairman made a few remarks, and called. for cheers for our boys, which were heartily responded to.

The tables were soon cleared away, and dancing commenced to the splendid music supplied by Scobie Bros., and was kept going until 4.30 a.m. During the evening the following items were rendered : — Songs by Mr Brass (encored) and Mr Wm. McIntosh (encored), t-vo step-dances by Mrs Ireland, songs by Mr G. A. Scott and Mr Butler. Mr R. Salton made a very efficient M.C. After singing " Auld Lang Syne," the function terminated.

The committee desire to thank all the ladies who worked so zealously to make tho function a success.
