Sheep. — The enquiry for yonng ewes still continues and every line is eagerly snapped up directly it is known to be for sale. Up to the pre-

sent the principal markets have been for Canterbury and South Canterbury, where the feed m view is sufficient to check^'any fears of drought this summer. * As yet very few lines have been on offer, but after the wool sales there will doubtless be a large number for sale, but probably at increased prices, as there will be the local demand to consider. Up to the present values have ranged as follows : — 2-tooth ewes 15s to 17s 6d, 4 and 6-th ewes to 18s, sound-mouth lis to 14s, station lines 12s, wethers, fat, 163 to 18s, lorward do 12s 6d to 14s, fat lambs to 15s, There has, however, been practically no sales of lambs for forward delivery, farmers, however, are willing to take lis.

Cattle. — Prime beef remains fair at 30s for bullock and say 25s to 27s 6d fo: heifer or cow. The late rainy season has been so favourable for the growth of pasture that there is a more than usual amount of rough feed, which has induced a strong run on all store cattle, with the result that prices have risen sharply during the past weefc, lines being bought and turned over again within a few hours. Forward 3:yr-old bullocks are worth from £7 to £8 10s, stores to £7, 2-yr-olds £i) 10s tops 15s, and yearligs £2 10s to' £4, competition being always keen. Wool. — The steady rise m wool has brought out as usual keen competition amongst buyers, who, for selected clip 3, are giving from B£d to 9^d, and a good deal is changing hands at these prices, Jbut it seeias, on the face of it, to be a mistaken policy to sell on the ground'at these prices with the wool sales so close, and a rising market.
