OUTSIDE STAFF FOREMAN'S REPORT (Mr. J. De C'ttstro) Watertables: Cleaned in Whitcombe Road 12 chains; King Street 31 chains; Domett Street 16 chains; Fox Street 10 chains; Gisborne Terrace 16 chains; Napier Street 1 chain; Beach Highway 12 chains. The following roads wei'6 patched: King Street, Tennyson Street and Dorset Street. Reserves: Anew sump was constructed at the Centennial Cottage. The drains at the new Women's Rest Room were filled in. The trees in the new plantation were cleaned. The entrance t 0 the Domain was patched and posts carted from there to the depot. Culverts: Were installed for Messrs. R. G. Spence and 0. W. Lewis. / • General: The rubbish was collected and watertables in Tasman Street cleaned. Pipes made 16, sold 23. Health Report (Mr. S. C. Warner) I have put in 3 days trimming trees and cleaning up. There was one burial.

TOWN CLERK'S REPORT BUILDING PERMITS The Town Clerk, Mr. H. E. Collins reported for July as follows : « Receipts: Current Rates £3128 4, Rate-Arrears £2-0-0, Rents £47.9.4, Water Supply Fees £3-10-0, Motor Drivers £47-5-0, Heavy Traffic Fees £lO-10-0, Cattle Grazing £3-0-6, Sundry Licenses £2O-16-8, Library £29-10-0, Town Hall £l7-16-0, Cemetery £5-0-0, Stock Sales and Private Work £2l-17-10, Sundries 6/-. Library ■Five new members joined during the month and the membership is now 230; Fifteen new books were purchased. Building Permits Six building permits were issued for a total estimate of £'i--445. This total included two new houses, four alterations and additions to existing houses and one addition to a shop. Driver's Licenses Up to the end of July, 244 driver's licenses had been issued for the 1948/49 year. There are a number of licenses not yet renewed. Notes will be sent out in the near future. Heavy Traffic Thirty-two trucks and buses ■are registered for heavy traffic fees for this year. Women's Rest Room and Plunket Rooms Steadv progress is being made with the new building. Materials are to hand and provided the weather is reasonable there should not be any hold-up.
