TOURNAMENT GAMES LOCAL COMPETITORS Eight local players took part in the North Island Tennis championships held at Hawera. The most successful players were Mrs. L. Jackson who was defeated in the semi-final of the Handicap Singles by Miss S. Bloor, the eventual winner" and runner-up in -J-he North Island Junior Singles, and C. Thomas and Miss P. Bennett (Manaia) who were defeated by Dunn and Miss Bloor in the semi-final of the Handicap Combines. Others taking part were Mrs. E. G. Snell, Miss M. Snell, Mrs. A. Fagan, Messrs. E. J. Hyde, H. Otene and J. Snell. Hyde, who was nominated for the New Zealand Tennis Championships at Auckland, defaulted in the first round of the Championship Singles. Throughout the holidays the local courts were in -full use, club members and visitors taking full advantage of the glorious tennis weather. No organised games were played during the period.
