LONDON TO CAPE
OVERLAND CAR TRIP FINE PERFORMANCE An overland journey by car from London to Cape Town was completed earlier last year by Mr. G. Ward Price, the wellknown journalist. The journey of over ten thousand miles was accomplished in a Ford V 8 fitted with a Utility body, and took 42 days. This was one of the few successfully completed north to south car journeys through the African continent since before the war. The car had only 245 miles on the speedometer before leaving London, and the trip added a further 10,500 miles. The longest dqy's run was 496 miles, the daily average being 250. Mr. Ward Price travelled across France to Marseilles and then from Algiers across North Africa to Egypt, the Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanganyika, Northern and Southern Rhodesia to the Cape. He took the Nile steamer from Kofri, in Egypt, to a point further up the river at Juba. The trip was a severe test of reliability and stamina. In Northern Rhodesia, for instance, flood waters had almost obliterated tracks and the cat travelled for miles through deep mud.—Newzeaford News.
