MEETING AT DOMAIN

MORE PUBLIC INTEREST

All hough there was not lull representation of the business community, the early closing of shops and offices on Wednesday had a marked effect upon attend" ance and competition at the “fitness week” meeting conducted by the Opunake Amateur Athletic Club in the Domain. Fields were augmented by shop assistants, and events for High School pupils and young boys also were a feature. It may well be that the fixture will mark a revival of interest in athletics in Opunake. and that the club will benefit in

tin* future. One of the best events of the meeting was. the trades relay, in which seven teams of four members made a complete circuit of tire oval track, various business houses being represented. Barraclough’s won tbe day after a stern tussle with School and tbe Ommake dairy factory was third Tbe final runner for one team finished the journey on a bicycle, .adding to the humour of the event. In the ladies’ relay. School had a fine win, with the Baskethall Club second, and Hughson’s third. . , ~ The meeting was under the control of club officials and supporters. and the programme was completed in excellent time.
