ONE-DAY TOURNAMENT

Undefeated in section play nnd in the final contests, F. Julian's Pihama rink was tlie winner pi the one-day tournament organised by the Opunake Bowling dlub on Saturday. As one of the opening events in the local programme for fitness week, the fixture was most successful, twenty-two rinks, from all parts nf the province taking part.

Before the commencement of the contest, Mr. G. Feaver, president of the Opunake club, welcomed the visitors and wished them a pleasant day's play.

PJav was affected to. some decree by the particularly windy conditions which operated, competitors having some difficulty in controlling- their bowls. There were occasional light showers of tain, but plovers derived the usual amount of enjoyment from their sport. When play on the Opunake green was completed, there were three section finalists, these being the rinks skipped by Gnnson (Opunake), Hawke COkato) and Cottam (Voge.ltownJ, _ each of whom secured four wins in the five rounds of twelve heads decided. At Pihama, where six rinks were engaged, Julian did not suffer defeat, but Buxton (Aurosi) held him to a draw in the opening gam<\ The Opunake section was not finalised until two games of three heads had been played. Cottam eliminated Gunson, winning- 3-1. but was unable to better Hawke, who won a keenlycontested game 2-1. Then followed the final, which was played in very poor light, seven heads being the length of the 'mnm. Julian was ouieklv into the lead, and finished his successful dav with a victory of 8-3.
